Slacker superhero flick scores $11.1 million first day in theaters.

"The Green Hornet" flew into theaters with a big Friday debut.
Seth Rogen's turn as California rich kid turned baddie-battling vigilante scored $11.1 million its first day in theaters. The sizable Friday haul is presumably a reassuring figure for co-writer and star Seth Rogen, who battled tons of e-hate from fans of the masked hero in the time leading up to the film's release.
"It's something that [writing partner] Evan [Goldberg] would constantly have to remind me of throughout the process, in that this is kind of exactly what we thought would happen," Rogen told MTV News recently. "From the second we thought of doing a movie like this, I remember talking about it like, 'Everyone's going to think it's going to be insane and terrible and we'll just have to keep our heads down and make it, and then it'll come out and then people will slowly see that we weren't nuts and that it was actually a good idea.' "
Behind "Hornet" is another funnyman vehicle, "The Dilemma," starring Kevin James and Vince Vaughn. The comedy about a guy who's forced to decide whether to inform his best buddy that his seemingly perfect wife is creeping, debuted with $6.1 million in ticket sales.
The Hollywood heavyweight-packed Western "True Grit" kicked off the weekend in third place. Featuring Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and recent Critics' Choice Movie Award-winner Hailee Steinfeld, the Coen brothers' latest epic picked up $3.2 million. Friday's figure kicks the action flick's total estimated tally to about $118 million.
"The King's Speech," which features newly minted Critics' Choice-winner Colin Firth, won the fourth-place slot. The true story of a reluctant royal's game-changing wartime address nabbed $2.44 million — a number which boosts the film's total estimated gross to nearly $38 million.
The dance drama "Black Swan," which features Critics' Choice Best Actress Natalie Portman, took the fifth-place spot after being slightly outpaced by "Speech." The flick rang up $2.42 million on Friday, just thousands of dollars behind the Firth vehicle.
