Katy Perry Sues Tabloid Over Affair Story

Katy Perry Sues Tabloid Over Affair Story

Katy Perry will go to great lengths to defend her marriage to Russell Brand -- even as far as Australia. According to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, the pop star, 26, has filed a lawsuit in the Victorian Supreme Court against Australian gossip magazine AW, over claims that Perry cheated on Brand with a record producer.

According to NW's story, which ran earlier this month, Perry had an "intimate relationship" with producer Benny Blanco, which she concealed from husband Brand. The story -- titled "World Exclusive: Katy's Other Man" -- quoted two sources: a "friend" named Angela Summers and an "insider" named Marlon David. The friend allegedly claimed that Perry and Blanco got to know each other while he was mixing her track "California Gurls."

But it seems that NW got the facts a little mixed up. Not only did Blanco not mix "California Gurls," but Perry states she wasn't even present when the song was mixed. Furthermore, Summers and David are hardly insiders; in fact, Perry says she doesn't know them at all.

The lawsuit states that the article caused Perry to be "gravely injured in her reputation and feelings," and to suffer "distress, embarrassment and humiliation." The paperwork also notes that the magazine refused to issue an apology for the story, despite Perry's requests. The singer is seeking both damages and aggravated damages, which could amount to a six-figure payout -- a pretty big price tag for one little article.

Australian fans need not worry, however; Katy isn't holding this against the entire country. The "E.T." singer arrived Down Under on Wednesday to begin the Australian leg of her tour, and she shared her excitement on Twitter.

"#THECALIFORNIADREAMSTOUR HAS OFFICIALLY LANDED IN OZ! WE SO EXCITED," wrote Perry.

Later she announced that she had released extra tickets for fans in Melbourne. And before taking off, Perry accompanied Brand on a cozy-looking date to George's restaurant in London. Sounds like everything is going quite well for Perry -- maybe the truth is just too boring for the tabloids?
