The death of Patrice O'Neal hit the comedy world hard, prompting fellow stand-ups and actors to share their sadness online following Tuesday's (November 29) news.

Charlie Sheen — who was roasted by O'Neal this past September during "The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" — posted a short blog post about the news, admitting he's even shed tears for the comic's death. "The entertainment world as well as the world at large lost a brilliant man today," Sheen wrote. "Patrice had that rare 'light' around him and inside of him. I only knew him for the few days leading up the Roast. Yet I will forever be inspired by his nobility, his grace and his epic talent. My tears today are for the tremendous loss to his true friends and loving family."

Aziz Ansari kept his response simple, writing, "RIP Patrice O'Neal," alongside a YouTube link to one of O'Neal's comedy bits.

"RIP Patrice O'Neal. You made us laugh til we cried," Sarah Silverman wrote on Twitter.

A rep for O'Neal confirmed the news to MTV News on Tuesday with this statement: "It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O'Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00am due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19. Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side. Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo, his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family's request for privacy at this difficult time."

Fellow comedian/actor Nick Cannon hit Twitter to remember O'Neal. "An amazing comedian and an even better person. RIP Patrice O'Neal," he wrote. Cannon continued his thoughts on his website: "Patrice was also known for his famous laugh that could be heard coming from dark corners in the back of comedy rooms when he wasn't performing. The comedy world loved him, we loved him, it is a sad day because it's a day without Patrice. He will be missed. Patrice was 41."

"Jersey Shore" star Vinny Guadagnino chimed in on as well. "RIP Patrice O'neal..You were one of the best," he tweeted.
