Elizabeth Taylor's Final Tweets Deliver Message of Love

Elizabeth Taylor's Final Tweets Deliver Message of Love

Though Elizabeth Taylor died from congestive heart failure on Wednesday at the age of 79, the legendary actress will be fondly remembered by her family, friends and fans for her unforgettable roles in films like Cleopatra and her Oscar-winning turn in Butterfield 8, her singular fashion sense, for her devotion to AIDS research... and for her very indelible tweets.

Yes, as Dame Elizabeth's loyal fans know, the iconic movie star had become somewhat of a Twitter devotee since joining the social-networking site back in March 2009. As luck would have it, some of her final tweets are her most poignant.

On July 22, 2010, Taylor used Twitter to debunk rumors that a biopic about her life was in the works. "Hold your horses world. I've been hearing all kinds of rumours about someone being cast to play me in a film about Richard (Burton) and myself," she wrote. "No one is going to play Elizabeth Taylor, but Elizabeth Taylor herself." Taylor then concluded: "Not at least until I'm dead, and at the moment I'm having too much fun being alive...and I plan on staying that way. Happiness to all."

That last tweet seem eerily prescient now, but Taylor was just getting started. She returned to her account later the same day to deliver some true pearls of wisdom from a woman who had lived and loved (married six times!) to the fullest.

"I would like to add something to my earlier tweet," she wrote. "Always keep love and humility in your heart... Never let yourself think beyond your means...mental, emotional or any otherwise... You are who you are. All you can do in this world is help others to be who they are and better themselves and those around them... Give. Remember always to give. That is the thing that will make you grow... That is the thing that will give back to you all the rewards that there are," she continued.

"Don't do it for yourself, because then it becomes selfish... Because then it becomes about yourself...which is wrong. Giving is to give to God. Helping is to help others." And her final tweet on that fateful day was this: "Every breath you take today should be with someone else in mind. I love you."

Taylor only tweeted once more after that day in July 2010 -- on Feb. 9 of this year, to joyfully announce to the world that: "My interview in Bazaar with Kim Kardashian came out!!!" While fans no doubt wish the actress had lived long enough to share more of her thoughts, there is solace to be found in the wisdom of the tweets she left behind.
